Taking Requests!

I've realized that I totally neglected this blog.  I stayed home with my daughter during the year that I started blogging and then got back to work in a new position last August.  I will be staying home after this school year, but still want to create materials and help teachers! If you have a resource you want me to create, please let me know!

Dot Cards for Subitizing

Print and laminate these dot cards to work on subitizing with your classroom. I would flash a dot card and have my students write the number on a whiteboard.  You can also have students write addition sentences using the black and red dots or think of many other ways to utilize the dot cards!  32 pages in all!

Letter Tiles for Word Building

Use these letter tiles to build words!  I would copy them on cardstock and have students cut out the tiles.  They would then build words using the letters and write them on their whiteboards.  The students always loved to make words using this method!

Text Features Checklist

Use this checklist to assess your students' knowledge of nonfiction text features (common core aligned). The grading scale is based on my district's report card expectations, but you can edit the file to meet your own needs.

I have used this during one on one and guided reading sessions. It is a quick and easy performance based assessment.  Click the image to grab a copy for free!

Addition and Subtraction Timed Tests

Use these addition and subtraction timed tests to build math fluency.  The timed tests include sums to ten (there are a handful of 11 and 12 sums to assess computation) and doubles facts.  I also included an addition and subtraction tracking sheet.  When my students pass their timed test I give them a sticker to put on their tracking sheet so they always know what timed test they are on.  It is very useful because students track their own data and are self motivated to make it to the next timed test.  If you teach touch points the numbers match the numbers taught with touch points.  The timed tests build from 0's to 10's.  Once students get to 5's, the math facts become mixed for better review.  Please click the image to get a copy!  They are on sale now!

I have my students start with addition at 1 minute and 30 seconds.  When they pass all of the addition tests, I move to the subtraction timed tests at 1 minute and 30 seconds.  When my students pass the subtraction tests, they go back to addition, but this time at only 1 minute.  I find that these timed tests have really helped build my students' math fluency and as a bonus, they love doing them!
